El Circo

Luis G. Berlanga documentary

released: 1950          duration: 0:18:45

Spain. The film depicts the first visit of the American Circus to Spain in 1950 and the installation of the big top in what is now Plaza Felipe II, the site of the former bullring, for the San Isidro festivities. The most iconic attraction is an apocryphal Buffalo Bill. In its day, this circus concept sparked genuine admiration, and in times of economic hardship and international boycott, it put on a truly spectacular show. The documentary follows the initial installation tasks, the parade organized on Alcalá Street, the rehearsals of several acts, and finally, the performance.

At 12:59, a man juggles 3 clubs and does a mouth stick and ball routine while standing on the shoulders, and head, of his partner.
